Transit from Peru to Ecuador

After our long hike in Huayhuash, we decided to head north to Peru’s beaches for some much needed sunshine- first stop Mancora. The journey from Huaraz to Mancora consisted of two buses – the first with Linea to Trujillo (8 hours), then the second from Trujillo to Mancora with Cruz del Sur (approx 9 hours). Unfortunately, the Cruz del Sur bus arrived almost 2 hours late at 1:45am, much to our frustration and without any explanation!

Finally at Mancora, we first stayed at the quieter end of Mancora beach at Kimbas bungalows. Whilst the bungalows were lovely, the beach/main area nearby were more akin to partying backpackers, hustling locals and travellers learning to kite-surf, so we swiftly moved further north to Canoas past Punta Sal. We arrived to Baja Canoas hotel which was a peaceful sanctuary! It has a private beach and very few tourists, relaxing atmosphere, delicious meals and a quiet beach with the possibility of whale/ dolphin sightings!

Where we ate and recommend:

  • Mancora: Aqua – delicious seafood and local tuna
  • Canoas: Restaurant Cevicheria ‘Marlon’ – delicious ceviche at reasonable prices randomly by the side of a highway and beach.
